History
When Fujen University was re-established in Taiwan in 1963, there was a Law School comprising Departments of Law, Economics and Business Administration. In 1994 the Department of Financial and Economic Law was added. Then in 2003, following a domestic trend towards developing independent Faculties of Law, the Departments of Law and Financial Law were placed under a separate School of Law, while their sister Departments were grouped in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Outline History

(1) Faculty of Law
1963 Fu Jen University re-erected in Taiwan. The Faculty of Law has three Departments: Law, Economics & Business Administration
1969 Faculty of Law divides into Faculties: Law & Business.
Law Faculty opens a Department of Sociology
1972 Department of Economics returns to the Law Faculty
1974 Law Department divides into two streams:
Jurisprudence & Judicial Law
1977 Department of Sociology divides into two streams:
Sociology & Social Work.
1979 Law Department founds a Financial Law stream
1980 Graduate School of Law founded (offers a Master’s program)
1981 The two streams of the Sociology Department become independent Departments
1988 Graduate School of Religious Studies founded (offers a Master’s program)
1990 Graduate School of Law offers a Doctoral program
1991 Graduate School of Economics founded (offers a Master’s program)
Department of Religious Studies founded
1993 Socio-Cultural Research Centre founded
1994 Law Department’s Financial Law stream becomes an independent Department
1997 Law Department and Graduate School of Law merged into one.
1998 Sociology Department offers a Master’s program
2000 Financial Law Department offers a Master’s program
2001 Law Department founds a stream for people at work
2002 Religious Studies Department founds a stream for people at work
John Paul II Peace Institute affiliated to Faculty of Law
Religious Studies Department offers a Doctoral program

(2) School of Law
In 2003 the Departments of Law & Financial Law and the John Paul II Peace Institute form an independent School of Law; The other Departments and the Socio-Cultural Research Centre form the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Law Department of the School of Continuing Education forms a Post-Diploma Law stream. In 2005 the School of Law founds a Post-Diploma Law Department. The equivalent stream in the School of Continuing Education closes and the students transfer to the new Department.

School of Law Today
Currently the School of Law has three Departments with over 1,200 students: Department of Law (Bachelor’s, Master’s, In-Service Master’s, Doctoral Programmes) Department of Financial Law (Bachelor’s & Master’s Programmes) Graduate Department of Law (Bachelor’s Programme) The School also has two affiliated centres: Legal Service Centre
